Dance Coordinator - Nwest YMCA

GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the direction of the appropriate Director, the Coordinator will assist in providing leadership and program management for staff and fundraising in accordance with all Greater Wichita YMCA policies, procedures and standards.


MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum age of 21
  • Relevant departmental experience in program

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  • Must be able to routinely perform the following physical activities; climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, crawl, reach with hands, sit, stand and/or sit for extended periods of time, walk, lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity to perform detailed tasks
  • Must have ability to communicate effectively; both orally and in writing
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of maturity, patience, dependability, sound judgment and the desire to work with all ages
  • Must possess problem solving, organizational and task management skills; ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment
  • Must be detail oriented and exhibit a high degree of accuracy and alertness
  • Must exhibit initiative in the absence of supervision
  • Must be able to relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner
  • Must work collaboratively as a team member as well as independently and lead others by assigned goals, duties and deadlines

Job Requirements:

  • Commitment to the YMCA mission, vision and values
  • Must attend New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire
  • Complete CPR/AED, First Aid, and O2, and Listen First Workshop in accordance with Conditions of Employment
  • Learn all emergency procedures and action plans for the branch
  • Understand and abide-by all policies and procedures as set forth by the association
  • Work a schedule that reflects the needs of the branch

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leading and instructing classes.
  • Updating and maintain all dance rosters.
  • Creating and distributing monthly newsletters.
  • Updating and maintaining all dance bulletin boards.
  • Assisting Director in managing/supervising dance staff to ensure all staff is providing excellent instruction to children; coaching and correcting staff in reference to job description and safety expectations.
  • Assisting Director in managing all relevant dance program components.
  • Serving as head coach for minimum of one competitive team
  • Providing an overall TEAM player role to fulfill the mission of the program.
  • Travelling when appropriate with assigned team(s).
  • Building effective, authentic relationships with children, parents, volunteers and staff; smiling and greeting participants by name.
  • Responsible for the safety and well-being of participants.
  • Reporting any facility or equipment irregularities, unsafe conditions or feedback to supervisor verbally and in writing.
  • Following and enforcing all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
  • Reporting all incidents/accidents on the appropriate form as required and provide to supervisor within 24 hours of event.
  • Attending all required training sessions and scheduled meetings. Assist or lead training sessions/meetings as assigned.
  • Responsible for scheduled hours; securing substitutes when necessary. Notifying supervisor in advance, and in writing.
  • Supporting Strong Community Campaign fundraising efforts.
  • All other duties as assigned.

EFFECT ON END RESULT: Provide leadership and guidance to ensure the achievement of goals and objectives of the Dance Department with high levels of satisfaction and retention of members, participants and staff.
