responsibilities:
As a DevOps Engineer, a typical day will involve:

  • Collaborating directly with two dedicated engineering groups (Software Development and Data Science) to optimize CI/CD pipelines and accelerate automated processes across the deployment lifecycle.
  • Designing and implementing infrastructure as code (IaC) solutions to eliminate remaining manual workflows and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Managing, monitoring, and auditing our production Microsoft Azure environment to ensure high availability, compliance, and cost optimization.
  • Configuring and maintaining containerization technologies, specifically managing Kubernetes clusters and Docker environments for various applications.
  • Administering and supporting core infrastructure layers including Windows Server, Microsoft 365, and Entra ID (Azure AD).
  • Troubleshooting complex networking architectures, routing, firewalls, and cloud connectivity issues.
  • Authoring and refining robust automation scripts to streamline daily operational tasks and system monitoring.

Must-Haves

Career Progression: A proven professional background that originated in Systems Administration, Systems Engineering, or Network Administration prior to transitioning into DevOps.

Experience: 3+ years of dedicated experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or systems automation roles.

Cloud Expertise: Hands-on engineering experience with Microsoft Azure; must be capable of optimizing an environment post-migration without requiring foundational training.

CI/CD Tools: Demonstrated proficiency managing and deploying pipelines utilizing Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.

Containerization: Practical experience deploying and managing Kubernetes clusters and Docker containers.

Infrastructure Background: Solid comprehension of core systems and networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, firewalls, load balancing, Windows Server, and Entra ID/Azure AD).

Location Flexibility: Ability to work on-site 100% for the first 90 days in the Arlington, VA office, transitioning to a hybrid schedule (3 days on-site, 2 days remote) thereafter.

Nice-to-Haves

Familiarity with alternative scripting languages outside of your primary toolset.

A foundational understanding of conceptual virtualization frameworks (e.g., Hyper-V, VMware).

Experience supporting data science or advanced analytics teams with containerized workloads.
