Front End/HCD Designer Lead

<h2>Overview</h2> <p>DecisionPoint seeks a <strong>Front End/Human-Centered Design (HCD) Designer Lead</strong> to guide user experience design, visual interface development, and usability research for a Department of Defense (DoD) modernization program that supports <strong>Casualty and Mortuary Affairs (CMA)</strong> operations across Service branches. </p> <p> </p> <p>The HCD Designer Lead will champion user advocacy by facilitating <strong>workshops, journey mapping, and rapid prototyping</strong> to align interface design with mission workflows and stakeholder needs. This position drives the translation of user insights into intuitive, accessible, and responsive front-end solutions optimized for secure, cloud-based systems operating at multiple Impact Levels (IL2–IL5). </p> <p> </p> <p>This position is <strong>fully remote.</strong> </p> <p> </p> <h2>Duties & Responsibilities</h2> <ul> <li>Lead <strong>human-centered design workshops and journey mapping sessions</strong> to identify user needs, service touchpoints, and workflow pain points across CMA mission areas. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Translate qualitative insights into <strong>personas, use cases, and user stories</strong> that guide interface development and modernization planning. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Create <strong>wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes</strong> to rapidly test concepts with stakeholders and refine design direction. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Design and implement <strong>responsive, accessible, and mobile-ready front-end interfaces</strong> that meet DoD standards and WCAG 2.1 accessibility requirements. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Collaborate closely with business analysts, system architects, and developers to ensure UX design aligns with system architecture, security, and performance objectives. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Support <strong>iterative design and feedback cycles</strong>, integrating user input through focus groups, usability testing, and sprint reviews. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Document and present <strong>UI/UX design artifacts</strong> including style guides, component libraries, and usability reports for review and approval. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Apply <strong>human-centered and data-driven design methodologies</strong> to improve workflow efficiency, reduce cognitive load, and increase mission usability. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Conduct <strong>A/B testing and UX performance benchmarking</strong>, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Ensure designs accommodate <strong>low-bandwidth and field conditions</strong>, optimizing for reduced image sets, caching, and limited connectivity environments. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Contribute to the creation of <strong>in-application help tools and guided experiences</strong> to improve learnability and reduce training burden. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Mentor junior designers and ensure design consistency across all applications and task areas. </li> </ul> <h2>Qualifications</h2> <p><strong>Clearance Requirement:</strong> </p> <ul> <li>Must hold an active <strong>Secret clearance.</strong> </li> </ul> <p><strong>Education:</strong> </p> <ul> <li>Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Design, Computer Science, or related field. </li> </ul> <p><strong>Experience:</strong> </p> <ul> <li>Minimum <strong>10 years of experience</strong> in user experience design, interface development, or human-centered design for large-scale enterprise or defense systems. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Demonstrated success leading workshops, user research, and prototyping for digital transformation or modernization projects. </li> </ul> <p><strong>Technical Knowledge:</strong> </p> <ul> <li>Mastery of design tools such as <strong>Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, or Axure RP.</strong> </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Familiarity with <strong>Agile and DevSecOps environments</strong>, integrating UX into iterative development pipelines. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Experience designing for <strong>AWS GovCloud</strong> or similar secure hosting environments. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Knowledge of <strong>HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript frameworks (React, Angular)</strong> for front-end collaboration. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Understanding of <strong>DoD accessibility, cybersecurity, and UX standards</strong> (DoDAF, Section 508, CC SRG). </li> </ul> <p><strong>Certifications (Preferred):</strong> </p> <ul> <li>Certified Usability Analyst (CUA) or equivalent HCD credential. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>AWS Cloud Practitioner or equivalent cloud design certification. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>UX Design or Human-Centered Design certificate (Nielsen Norman Group, IDEO U, or similar). </li> </ul> <p><strong>Skills:</strong> </p> <ul> <li>Strong communication and facilitation abilities in cross-functional settings. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Expertise in turning complex requirements into simple, intuitive user experiences. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Demonstrated ability to lead design teams and manage stakeholder expectations. </li> </ul> <ul> <li>Excellent visual design sense with attention to clarity, consistency, and performance. </li> </ul> <h2>Our Equal Employment Opportunity Policy</h2> <ul> <li><strong>EEO and Affirmative Action Policy:</strong> DecisionPoint Corporation is an Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action employer.
