Information Technology Director - FILLED

Patterson Health Center (PHC), a critical access hospital located in the plains of south-central Kansas near Wichita, has an outstanding opportunity for an Information Technology Director. PHC is the culmination of a project started in 2013. The effort was spurred on at the urging of native son Neal Patterson, co-founder of Kansas City-based healthcare software giant Cerner Corporation.

Completed in 2019, PHC combined two critical access hospitals in Anthony and Harper, Kansas. The new centrally located critical access hospital has 16 inpatient beds with a large emergency room to support its service as a Level IV Trauma Center. In addition, the facility has relocated the Harper and Anthony rural health clinics and specialty outpatient clinics into a new, larger clinic integrated within the new health center.

Opportunity: Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the director is responsible for overall management of the information systems and support functions for clinical and business systems throughout the organization. Provides workflow analysis, system definition, design, acquisition and implementation of new and modified systems for various hospital departments. Manages vendor activities in conformance to contracts and manages outside consultants and contractors who assist with implementation and support activities. Oversees one technician focused primarily on the network, and one clinical IT RN focused on the Cerner application.

Candidate Profile: The ideal candidate is one who has IT networking experience, good communication skills, can effectively balance between tasks and people, is a critical thinker, and is still hands-on (will serve in the on-call rotation). Prior healthcare IT and management are preferred.

Location: Located 45 minutes southwest of Wichita, Harper County is a vibrant community of about 5,600 people, living in safe and clean rural towns, with a surprisingly diverse local economy, including a manufacturing base of more than 20 firms. Harper County is valued for its country roads, wooded streams, and the abundant wildlife of the Kansas prairie. There are numerous community attractions, including Anthony Lake, a 153-acre lake that features boating, camping, hiking, and fellowship and leased shoreline cabin sites.
