JOB TITLE: Kitchen Team Member (Line Cook/Prep/Dishwasher)

POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a versatile and enthusiastic Kitchen Team Member to join our Hutchinson team. In this multi-faceted role, you will wear multiple hats in our kitchen operation—preparing ingredients, executing cooking tasks, and maintaining a clean, organized kitchen. You will support the entire kitchen operation by working across different stations and responsibilities as needed. This is an excellent opportunity to develop a broad range of culinary and kitchen management skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

LINE COOK DUTIES:

  • Prepare food items according to established recipes, portion sizes, and presentation standards
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently (grills, ovens, fryers, prep stations, etc.)
  • Monitor food temperatures and quality to ensure consistency
  • Respond promptly to order tickets and communicate with expeditors and servers
  • Check food quality and presentation before items leave the kitchen
  • Assist with inventory management and food preparation as needed

PREP COOK DUTIES:

  • Prepare ingredients for service (chopping, dicing, slicing vegetables, meats, and other items)
  • Portion and package ingredients for line cooks
  • Maintain mise en place (organized and prepared ingredients) throughout shifts
  • Follow recipes and portion guidelines precisely
  • Handle raw food items safely, following proper food handling procedures
  • Stock cooking stations and prep areas with necessary supplies
  • Monitor food freshness and rotation using FIFO (First In, First Out) method

DISHWASHER/SANITATION DUTIES:

  • Wash, sanitize, and organize dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in the dishwashing area
  • Keep floors, walls, and work surfaces clean throughout shifts
  • Take out trash and manage waste disposal appropriately
  • Organize and stock clean dishes and equipment for kitchen staff
  • Assist with general kitchen cleanup and organization
  • Maintain compliance with health and safety regulations

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follow all food handling and sanitation practices in accordance with health codes
  • Keep entire work station clean, organized, and well-stocked during and after shifts
  • Work collaboratively with kitchen team to ensure smooth operations
  • Help train new kitchen staff on procedures
  • Maintain a positive, team-oriented attitude
  • Assist with special projects and prep as needed
  • Contribute ideas to improve kitchen efficiency

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum 6 months to 1 year of kitchen or food service experience (or willingness to train)
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation and safety standards
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environment
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Attention to detail and commitment to food quality and cleanliness
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional demeanor
  • Available for flexible scheduling including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Food handler's certificate (or willingness to obtain)
  • Team player mentality with strong communication skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and adapt to changing tasks
  • Experience with pizza preparation is a plus
  • Basic knife skills preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position operates in a busy kitchen environment with exposure to heat, steam, noise, water, and fast-paced rushes. You will work as part of a team to maintain high standards of food quality, preparation, and cleanliness. The kitchen can be hot and demanding, especially during peak hours. You'll be on your feet for most of your shift and may be exposed to sharp objects and hot surfaces.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand for 8+ hours
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Repetitive hand and arm movements
  • Exposure to wet and hot conditions
  • Ability to work quickly while maintaining attention to detail
