KBR is seeking a Principal Tax Specialist in Houston, TX to support federal, state, and local tax compliance and reporting activities while contributing to process improvements across the tax function. This role is responsible for preparing and reviewing tax reports, returns, and related filings; supporting quarterly and annual tax provision processes; ensuring compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations; and identifying opportunities to optimize tax positions and reduce risk. Working under general direction, the Principal Tax Specialist applies specialized tax knowledge to analyze complex issues, support compliance activities, and collaborate cross-functionally with Finance and Accounting teams to ensure accurate and timely tax reporting while serving as a key technical resource within the tax function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns and related reporting requirements
  • Support quarterly and annual tax provision processes, including analysis, documentation, and coordination with external auditors
  • Ensure compliance with applicable tax laws, regulations, and statutes while identifying opportunities to minimize tax liability
  • Analyze and evaluate tax treatments to support accurate reporting and risk mitigation
  • Assist with responses to tax audits, governmental inquiries, and information requests
  • Collaborate with Accounting, FP&A, Legal, and external advisors to support tax reporting and business initiatives
  • Identify and support process improvements and automation opportunities within tax reporting and compliance activities
  • Maintain documentation supporting tax positions and compliance processes
  • Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to junior team members when needed
  • Support special projects and tax initiatives as assigned

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. CPA strongly preferred
  • 7+ years of progressive tax experience, including federal and state compliance and tax provision
  • Experience with OneSource Provision (OTP)
  • Familiarity with ERP tools such as SAP, Oracle, Costpoint, Hyperion (HFM), and OneSource Income Tax (OIT) preferred
  • Working knowledge of ASC 740 and corporate income tax reporting
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to interpret complex tax regulations
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines with limited oversight
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
