POSITION SUMMARY: The Regional Director of Convention Sales is responsible for effectively soliciting and selling the Reno, Sparks, and Lake Tahoe area as a convention destination and for achieving the sales targets and objectives of the Reno Sparks Convention & Visitor's Authority. The optimum candidate will have convention and meetings market knowledge. The Regional Director of Convention Sales is responsible for the booking of business with potential and established customers to utilize hotels and RSCVA facilities for their conventions and meetings including, but not limited to, conventions, exhibits, trade shows, sports, corporate meetings, incentive programs, association activities and special events. This position is also responsible for interfacing with the RSCVA internal staff and all other related “stakeholders” ensuring that the mission of the RSCVA is achieved.  The Sales Territory for this position consists of Northern California and the Northwest Territory. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Builds and maintains relationships with prospective group business through strong communication and effective interaction with clients to ensure their needs and expectations are paired correctly with Reno Tahoe product offerings as well as business terms and conditions. Demonstrates strong skills in developing and executing strategic business plans that effectively grow share within specific business segments or territories along with closing strategies for individual bookings. Partner with the RSCVA Sales, Marketing, and Destination Partners to ensure a synergistic approach to achieving company goals. Utilize sales and marketing materials to increase sales and maximize the Reno Tahoe position in the market. Develops plans to shift market share from strategically identified competitive destinations and hotels. Meets established room night sales goals, quarterly and annual sales goals, and leads, prospecting, and solicitation goals. Promptly qualifies leads (budget, purchasing timeframe, fit, etc.) determines and leverages clients; effectively analyzes internal and external client needs, cost/benefit analysis and next best steps; effectively presents solutions for customers based on information from previous steps; overcomes objectives; closes sales. Strengthens customer relationships through service ethic; anticipates and provides solutions to customer needs. Serves as an objective consultant for both external and internal customers. Conveys relevant information in a timely fashion, appropriately tailored to the intended audience; effectively influences and persuades others; listens effectively and follows-up to ensure understanding. Assumes accountability for results of actions. Meets deadlines. Follows through on commitments to customer and internal planning processes. Ensure that all information and promotional materials developed follow brand guidelines. Develops and maintains an accurate, up-to-date, and comprehensive knowledge of the attractions and capabilities of the Reno Sparks Convention & Visitor's Authority facilities, local attractions and points of interest, and local hotel properties, and can effectively utilize this knowledge as a sales tool. Demonstrates ability to work with stakeholders with tact and diplomacy; and has exceptional presentation, writing and verbal skills. Maintains high standards, a positive attitude, and professional appearance and work ethic, and builds an effective rapport with clients or prospective clients and stakeholders. Actively participates in formal department/RSCVA planning activities. Serves as a consultant to other departments as needed. Participates in professional community organizations as appropriate. Quotes rates and prepares bids for facilities, and/or formal license agreements/contracts for ticketed and non-ticketed events at the facilities. Creates payment schedules and collects initial deposit. Prepares monthly reports for VP of Sales in an accurate and timely manner. Acts as a representative of the RSCVA at networking, public, and private events, and in industry-related tradeshows, as well as national tradeshows. Responsible for notifying the VP of Sales about updates and/or changes to client contracts. Consistently demonstrates positive, interpersonal relations with all constituencies; cooperates harmoniously with others in the accomplishment of the RSCVA’s strategic goals and objectives. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with others. Adheres to attendance and punctuality requirements per RSCVA policy.  Provides proper notification for absences and tardies. Takes corrective action to prevent recurring absences or tardies. Uses time effectively and constructively. Does not abuse supplies, equipment, and service. Observes all RSCVA and departmental policies governing conduct while at work (e.g., telephone and computer use, electronic messaging, smoking regulations, parking, breaks and other related policies). Perform other duties as assigned or requested. Additional voluntary supplemental insurance programs  QualificationsJOB QUALIFICATIONS: Must reside in one of the states within the sales territory listed. Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred or equivalent years of experience. Minimum of 5 years’ work experience in Conventions, Tourism and/or Hospitality sales experience preferred. Familiar with a variety of the Convention and Tourism concepts, practices, and procedures as well as recent developments, current literature, and sources of information regarding various types of events (concerts, tournaments, conventions, sporting events, livestock events, etc). Knowledge of contract administration, leasing concessions, rental agreements, language, terms, and legal concepts. Knowledge of safety requirements for public assembly, and safety rules and regulations relating to public health and safety in large facilities Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships, foster trust and cooperation among team members as well as customers. Must have an outgoing personality and able to make instant connections. Proficient in basic computer skills and software programs including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, and CRM (customer relationship management) software as well as industry related prospecting tools. Ability to prioritize multiple projects. Excellent written and oral communication/presentation skills with the ability to effectively communicate with staff, superiors, visitors, clients, vendors, and the public. Must be highly motivated and self-directed, detail oriented, organized, meet established deadlines, and be professional in performance of duties. Must possess a valid driver’s license. WORKING CONDITIONS / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS May be required to travel within the region and outside the region at times. May require work inside or outside of the building as needed by events. May be exposed to various temperatures inside and outside the building, airborne particles, fumes, and chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet while in the office, or moderately noisy when in the field.   PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach, bend (at neck and waist), twist, talk, and hear.
