Primary Purpose Responsible for the maintenance, analysis, and reporting of data generated for all activities within the oversight of the Rail Safety &

  • Security department, including data relating to incidents, investigations, regulatory compliance, and other aspects of railway safety. Works closely with managers and staff across the department in supporting the development of strategies, programs, and campaigns for improving overall railway safety. Assists the Manager and Director in preparing reports suitable for audiences at different organizational levels.

Key Accountabilities Maintains and analyzes data relating to railway safety, including safety incidents, safety violations, passenger injuries, incident investigations, and compliance to WorkSafeBC, Technical Safety BC (TSBC), and Transport Canada regulations. Maintains and analyzes data relating to all other aspects of Rail Safety &

  • Security activities, including security, emergency management, and environmental management, and compliance to relevant regulations. Uses a data-based approach to interpret findings and uncover trends. Collaborates with BCRTC’s Business Analytics team to sort through provided data, define, assess and validate the quality of data and provide proper reports and analytics for the Director, Senior Leadership team meetings, board meetings and the departmental reviews and decision makings. Actively participates with Rail Safety &
  • Security managers by providing quality data analytic reports in supporting data driven decision makings, developing and implementing various strategies and programs for their areas of responsibility. Works closely with those managers to assist in determining appropriate targets and measures, risk analysis activities, and hazard identification. Under the direction of the Director and Manager, prepares reports and analyses on Rail Safety &
  • Security topics for managers and staff at different levels of the organization. Ensures reports are clear, concise, accurate, and appropriate for the audience. Provides guidance, training, and support to all BCRTC departments affected by railway safety incidents and investigations to identify and evaluate potential hazards and ensure the implementation of corrective measures resulting from investigations and railway safety data analysis. Acts as the BCRTC Railway Safety Data Specialist and liaises with external agencies (such as TSBC), providing recommendations to mitigate and resolve issues, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Education &

Experience The requirements for this job are acquired through completion of a university degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering or other relevant business-related fields plus seven (7) years of progressive experience in advanced data and analytics functions in a multifaceted organization, including at least one (1) years’ experience in leading comprehensive analytical projects. Master’s, Doctorate degrees, and Professional Certifications in related fields may be considered as equivalent to practical experience.

Experience in public service program monitoring and evaluation, or experience in workforce analytics, such as occupational health & safety, training, productivity, or other HR analytics would be considered an asset.

Solid knowledge of the relevant standards, legislation, acts, and regulatory requirements pertaining to the rail industry. Advanced knowledge of data analysis software and tools. Advance
