Sr Software Engineer - Host Network

<p><strong>About the Role</strong></p> <p>You will design, implement and manage a network AI ops platform designed to automate various network processes, such as root cause analysis and operational workflows. This position is perfect for a highly skilled software engineer with a background in machine learning or GenAI who is eager to implement these advanced techniques within the network AI Ops domain.</p> <p>The Uber Host Network team oversees the systems and infrastructure for host networking in both cloud and on-premises settings. This scope encompasses traffic management, host network observability, secure service mesh, authentication for host network traffic, and network AI ops projects. In this role, you will work alongside elite engineers to develop a secure, reliable, scalable, and contemporary host networking landscape for Uber.</p> <p><strong>What the Candidate Will Need / Bonus Points</strong></p> <p>---- What the Candidate Will Do ----</p> <ol> <li>Design, develop, manage network AI ops platform.</li> <li>Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code.</li> <li>Participate in code reviews and contribute to the development of engineering best practices.</li> <li>Participate in on-call rotations to provide timely resolution of critical incidents and ensure system availability.</li> <li>Mentor junior engineers on the host networking team.</li> <li>Collaborate with cross-functional teams, design and implement scalable, reliable, and high-performance networking solutions, through sophisticated experiments.</li> <li>Debug and troubleshoot complex issues across multiple systems.</li> </ol> <p>---- Basic Qualifications ----</p> <ol> <li>Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related field.</li> <li>5+ years of experience in software development, with experience in LLM/GenAI, networking or infra.</li> <li>Highly efficient coding in Golang, Python, C++ or any similar languages.</li> <li>Engineering experience in hands-on software development with thoughtfulness of scale, latency and distributed architecture.</li> <li>Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills.</li> <li>Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across different teams and effectively lead projects.</li> </ol> <p>---- Preferred Qualifications ----</p> <ol> <li>Solid understanding of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP.</li> <li>Proven ability to diagnose and tackle performance issues across the networking stack.</li> <li>Experience with deep learning and/or LLM/GenAI approaches applied to networking or infrastructure.</li> <li>Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.</li> <li>Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through actual launch of the project.</li> </ol> <p>For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$202,000 per year - USD$224,000 per year.</p> <p>You will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp.
