Strategic Sales Manager, Advisor Custody

About the role:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Sales Executive to join our team, focusing on the West Coast territory of the United States. This role is critical in driving growth within the advisor custody space by identifying, engaging, and closing new business with RIAs and financial advisory firms. As a key player in our sales team, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver tailored solutions that meet the needs of our clients while expanding our market presence.

Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed below is just one component of Betterment’s total compensation package for employees.

West Coast (Remote): Target OTE between $190,000 - $220,000

A day in the life!

  • Business Development: Identify and pursue new sales opportunities with RIAs, financial advisors, and other wealth management firms within the West Coast region
  • Client Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain long-term relationships with prospective and existing clients, acting as a trusted partner to help them leverage Betterment Advisor Solutions’ custody solutions
  • Sales Strategy: Develop and execute a sales strategy that aligns with company goals, market demands, and client needs, ensuring consistent performance in meeting or exceeding revenue targets
  • Territory Management: Proactively manage your sales pipeline, identifying and prioritizing key opportunities within the West Coast territory, while managing time effectively across a wide geographic region
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the product, marketing, and customer success teams to ensure a seamless experience for clients and prospects, from first contact through onboarding
  • Market Expertise: Stay current on trends and regulatory changes in the advisor custody space, with a particular focus on the needs and challenges of RIAs and financial advisors in the West Coast
  • Reporting & Forecasting: Provide regular updates on sales activities, including pipeline updates, revenue forecasts, and competitive intelligence, to senior leadership
What we’re looking for!
  • Experience: 5+ years of sales experience in the financial services industry, with a strong background in advisor custody or related sectors (e.g., RIA platforms, custodians, asset management, fintech solutions)
  • Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success in driving revenue growth and building relationships with RIAs and financial advisory firms
  • Knowledge of Advisor Custody: Deep understanding of the advisor custody landscape, including regulatory requirements, operational challenges, and competitive offerings
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex solutions in a clear and compelling manner
  • Relationship-Building: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish rapport and trust quickly with clients
  • Self-Motivated: Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and drive results in a remote, territory-based role
  • Technology Proficiency: Comfortable using CRM software (e.g., Salesforce), presentation tools, and other technology platforms essential to the sales process
Preferred Qualifica tions:
  • Experience working with RIAs or wealth management firms in the West Coast region
  • Familiarity with the Betterment Advisor Solutions platform and/or digital advisory solutions
