Surveyor 1 Position
Join the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as a Surveyor 1 and help shape the transportation systems that support communities across the Commonwealth. This position supports the district surveying program by assisting with scheduling, research, field coordination, and digital project development. In this role, you will help ensure survey data is accurate, timely, and ready for use in transportation projects. As a Surveyor 1, you will perform the following duties:
- Work Scheduling: Review incoming survey requests and assign tasks to field crews based on project needs
- Field Oversight: Monitor survey activities to confirm that crews follow safety rules, regulations, and procedures
- Digital Integration: Train staff on digital delivery tools and support the use of digital terrain models, 3D files, and electronic data workflows
- Data Review: Examine completed survey work and verify the accuracy of collected information and project alignments
- Technical Research: Research existing records, as-built plans, and Right of Way documents to support project development
- Project Support: Assist design and project staff by processing scan data and preparing information for OpenRoads work

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position may require overtime and travel.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Indiana. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. - Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $59,345 (before taxes).

Qualifications
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year as a Surveyor Technician Supervisor (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Five years of responsible surveying work, including one year as a chief of party of a wide variety of surveying assignments; and graduation from high school. An Associate Degree in surveying or engineering technology may be substituted for one year of non-specialized experience; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of a registered surveyor's license as issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, or possession of a registered surveyor's license obtained in another public jurisdiction under requirements which are at least equal to those of Pennsylvania.
Other Requirements:
- This position requires possession of a registered surveyor's license as issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists within one year of hire.
- This particular position also requires a valid driver's license that is not under suspension.
