Role Overview The Principal Examiner plays a crucial role in delivering technical qualifications, overseeing assessment production, and ensuring quality standards. This role involves leading assessment creation for the externally assessed examination series, collaborating with subject matter experts, and managing the assessment cycle. Location and Travel All activities are primarily remote within the UK, with potential travel to London for meetings as needed. Qualification Details This role oversees the new City & Guilds Technical Occupational Entry (OTQ) in Wood Occupations (Site Carpentry), designed for learners aged 16-19 and 19+. The qualification covers topics such as: Introduction to Complex Carpentry & Joinery First Fix Second Fix Roofing Maintenance and Repairs Assessment Responsibilities The role includes overseeing the production and maintenance of assessments, including two on-demand, online MCQ theory exams, which are externally set and marked by City & Guilds. Production and Quality Assurance The Principal Examiner collaborates with the Chief Examiner and a team of associates responsible for assessment development. Responsibilities include writing at least one MCQ exam, commissioning, reviewing assessments, and ensuring quality throughout the production process. Meetings and Support The role requires attending full-day remote Assessment Material Evaluation Committees (AMECs) for each assessment version, occurring 3-4 times annually. The Principal Examiner also supports City & Guilds in addressing queries and feedback related to assessments throughout the year.
